Urban Design Center — Brand & System Design

Context
The Charlotte Urban Design Center is a civic space and program within Charlotte’s Planning, Design & Development department. It serves as a hub for public engagement, design education, and community-driven city-building.

Problem
The Center needed a distinct identity that could operate across physical space, public programming, and digital communication—while aligning with the broader City of Charlotte brand.

Goal
Create a cohesive, flexible visual system that reflects the Center’s role as a connector between the city, its people, and the built environment.

Approach
A CMYK-based system built on overlap and intersection—reflecting the idea that people make cities, and that urban design is shaped through layered perspectives and collaboration.

Outcome
A unified identity that extends across physical and digital touchpoints—supporting consistent communication, stronger visibility, and ongoing community engagement.
